Kindergarten Orientation Information

Welcome to Kindergarten! Thank you for attending Kindergarten Orientation. This is one of the most important years of your child’s academic career, a time when attitudes toward school are formed. Since Kindergarten helps build a foundation for learning, we can build a strong one by working together toward the same goals for the benefit of your child. With this in mind, here are some expectations, guidelines, and ideas that will make your child’s introduction to public education a positive experience.

1st Week & Month of school

When bringing your child to school please say good-bye lovingly and leave quickly, even though your child may seem upset. We will take good care of your Kindergartner!

Attendance

Regular attendance is stressed. Please be on time. School starts at 8:00 a.m. and dismissal is at 2:20 p.m. Every Friday is half day. School hours on Friday are 8:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (Students do eat lunch at school on Fridays). Absences must be verified; phone the school office (944-4323) or second best, send a note when your child returns to school. Late arrivals must check into the office before going to class. In the event of an early departure, parents must sign students out in the office before picking them up from class.

SNACKS & FOOD

A lunch bag/box is recommended. Please label it with your child’s name. A morning snack should be packed in a separate ziplock or paper bag.  Snacks are kept separate from student's lunches in a snack basket.  Pieces of fruit, raw vegetables, nuts, or cheese are good examples of healthy snacks.  Please avoid foods with high sugar content. Milk may be purchased for .35 cents at lunch time.  Hot lunch is available at a cost of $2.50.  There is a free lunch program for those who qualify. Please contact the office for more information regarding this program.

TOTE

Students should have some means of carrying home school envelopes, art projects, papers, and lunch easily. Totes and large backpacks work well. Names should be written on the outside.

PARENTAL CONTACTS

Each Thursday notices from the school office are sent home. Parent-Teacher conferences are held twice a year and report cards are issued three times a year. If for any reason you wish to talk with us, please send a note or contact the office.

CLOTHING

Children should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Please, no backless sandals. Jackets and sweaters must be labeled with your child’s name.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS

We encourage participation in your child’s education. Your help in the classroom is appreciated. Parent helpers will assist in a variety of ways in the classroom. Volunteers for the classroom will not be needed for a few weeks. A sign up sheet will be available during Back-To-School night.

DISMISSAL

Please wait for your child outside the designated pick-up area and not outside the classroom. If for some reason you need to take your child out of school early, you must go to the office and sign her/him out first.  Send a note any day your child is going home a different way than they normally do.

BIRTHDAYS

We do recognize birthdays in Kindergarten. A birthday crown will be worn and a small ceremony conducted. You may choose to send in treats that day, but please let us know verbally or by a note ahead of time. Birthday celebrations are held during the last hour of school in your child’s homeroom.

We hope this informal outline will be of help to you during the year. All of us look forward to an exciting year of learning with your child.

Sincerely,

The Paul Ecke Central Kindergarten Team
