Fairy Tales Ideas
Jack and the Beanstalk Read the story, then have students reconstruct the story with small pictures from the story on a piece of construction paper. Also, here's a great poem called "When a Giant has a Haircut" by Kenn Nesbitt (click here for his website).
Masks Using patterns for animal masks, students can color masks and then recreate stories.
Gingerbread House Have students save small milk cartons. Students can decorate with candy.
Bulletin Boards Make gingerbread houses, castles, etc. out of butcher paper.

Medieval Times Activities
Crowns - Make princess hats and prince crowns out of construction paper.
Armor Cut out patterns on black/gray construction paper.
Decorated Surcoat From pillowcases, cut 2 armholes and a neck hole. Paint a design or crest on the front. Tie a belt around the waist. You may also make a construction paper crest or design and pin on a t-shirt.
Shield Students can decorate a shield with paints. Shields could also be covered with tin foil and then painted. Glue to construction paper and glue paper "handle" to back.
Gems & Jewels necklaces, bracelets, rings
Castles Form students into groups. Give each student a large cardboard base. Brainstorm ways to draw walls, towers, etc. You can use toothpicks to make ladders and combine with paper to make paper banners to fly from castle towers. Make small people out of paper. Make a drawbridge out of cardboard and yarn "chain."
Medieval Feast Students can make a fruit platter, beef stew, almond pudding.
| Beef Stew 2 lbs of cubed stewing beef 2 8-oz jars of beef gravy salt, pepper, thyme, etc. onions, chopped (optional) Mix all ingredients. Cook on high for four hours or until meat is tender. |
Almond Pudding 2 large pkgs instant vanilla pudding milk almond extract Follow directions for pudding. Add almond extract. |
