Goal: Students color in boxes on a 0-99 chart to make a design in order to help students recognize numbers 0-99.
Preparation: Make copies of the blank chart. Make designs on the chart -- for example, a smiley face, a heart, the word "hi," etc. Laminate these so you can write on them. Make a copy of the blank chart for each student.
How to play:
Give each student a blank chart (click for PDF version
or see below for scanned version).
Like Bingo, I then call out numbers one by one (make sure you keep track of which
numbers you have already called with a wet- or dry-erase marker). I teach students
to find the number by running their finger down the left-hand column until they find the
number in the tens place (i.e. 30) then going horizontally to find the number in the ones
place (i.e. 36). Students color in the boxes as I call them out. When I have
called all numbers, students will have a design on their paper! They think this is
great fun, and they are learning a lot too.
